Full List of 8 Rogue Cops Sent by DIG Eliud Lagat to Arrest and Torture Albert Ojwang’

Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service (DIG KPS), Eliud Lagat, has emerged as the man who ordered the torture and murder of Albert Ojwang, even as senior officers, including the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohammed Amin, attempt to pin the blame on junior officers at Central Police Station.

Credible accounts now point to a horrifying sequence of events: DCI officers delivered Albert Ojwang to Lagat at a so-called “safe house,” where he was brutally beaten and left to die. That location wasn’t a safe house—it was a slaughterhouse under police command.

The eight DCI officers who were sent to arrest Ojwang in Homa Bay and bring him to Nairobi include:

1. Sergeant Sigei

2. Sergeant Wesley Kipkorir Kirui

3. PC Dennis Kinyoni

4. PC Milton Mwanze

5. PC Boniface Rabudo

6. Corporal Abdurahman Hussein

7. PC Samuel Kamau

8. Mr. Hillary Murai

These eight officers, along with others, brutally tortured Albert Ojwang to near death.

After the assault, Albert’s body—either already lifeless or barely holding on—was transported to Central Police Station.

Even there, the Officer Commanding Central Police Station (OCS), Samson Taalam, refused to book Albert, because he was in such a dire state that no paperwork could cover it up.

Senior law enforcement officials are now throwing their junior counterparts under the bus over Ojwang’s death.

DCI boss Mohammed Amin on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, told the Senate that the Central Police Station commander, Samson Taalam, should be treated as a prime suspect in Ojwang’s murder.

On Monday, June 9, 2025, OCS Taalam was interdicted alongside his deputy, Samuel Nganga, Charles Muriuki, Debian Lusweti, Evaline Kanyiri, and Peter Kimani, who was the cell supervisor during the incident.

Postmortem results released on June 10, 2025, indicated that Ojwang died from injuries to the head, neck, and limbs—consistent with assault.

Responding to questions from senators on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Amin lied that DCI officers had handed Ojwang over safely to police officers at Central Police Station and that he only learned of Ojwang’s death later.

He insisted that Taalam was the prime suspect.

However, officers from Nairobi’s Central Police Station have recorded statements with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), distancing themselves from the blogger’s death while in custody.

The officers insisted that Ojwang was already in critical condition when he was brought into the station.

They said that they tried to save Ojwang’s life upon noticing his deteriorating state, shifting blame to their counterparts in the DCI, whom they accuse of bearing full responsibility for Ojwang’s death.

OCS Taalam has also denied any involvement in the torture and killing of Ojwang.

In a statement recorded Wednesday at IPOA offices, Taalam said he was only summoned after Ojwang had already been booked.

He claimed that upon arrival, he found the suspect in poor health and took the initiative to rush him to hospital.

Many are now questioning why senior police officers appear to be making concerted efforts to pin Ojwang’s murder on Taalam while shielding the real culprit—Eliud Lagat.

Speaking about Ojwang’s death on Monday, June 9, 2025, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja revealed that the blogger’s arrest, along with others, was triggered by a formal complaint from Lagat, who claimed that his reputation was being tarnished by Ojwang’s social media posts.

“The reason why the late Ojwang was arrested together with others is because a complaint had been lodged by the DIG KPS about his name being tarnished,” Kanja stated.

During a press conference in Nairobi, leaders from the opposition coalition demanded that Eliud Lagat be arrested and charged in connection with Ojwang’s murder, arguing that he was not just a complainant in the case, but the very architect of the fatal operation.

“The postmortem of Albert is clear, and all Kenyans have formed the opinion that he was murdered,” said Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi.

“We are calling not just for the resignation but for the arrest and arraignment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police Eliud Lagat within 24 hours of the issuance of this statement.”
