Tanzanian singer Joseph Haule alias Professor Jay has been ailing for a while, he has been admitted at Muhimbili National Hospital for close to a month.
Professor Jay’s situation was highlighted by rapper Ambwene Yessayah aka AY who took to social media to appeal to Tanzanians to raise money towards the rapper’s treatment.
AY said that Professor Jay is spending Tsh4 million (Ksh200,000) a week on medical expenses and was in need of financial support.
“The family is yet to formally ask for help in this matter. But it is our responsibility to help because he is our colleague and one of us having entertained us for more than two decades,” said AY.
US-based Tanzanian blogger Mange Kimambi later on revealed that Professor Jay had been admitted in hospital after suffering kidney failure and also High Blood Pressure (HBP).
Professor Jay was first admitted to Lugano Hospital before he was transferred to Muhimbili hospital due to the severity of his condition.
The veteran Bongo rapper is undergoing dialysis at Muhimbili National Hospital as doctors assess if he will need kidney transplant.
Doctors are also trying to stabilize his pressure. It was reported that Professor Jay’s condition became worse after he contracted Covid-19. His family has not confirmed or denied the allegations.
The family however addressed the media after false reports emerged claiming that Professor Jay had succumbed to his condition.
Professor Jay’s family refuted claims he is dead. The rapper’s younger brother Black Rhyno told Global Publishers his fans should ignore the rumors.
“It is a lie. He is not dead. Let us stop saying things that are not true.”
A Tanzanian politician by the name John Heche also shut down the rumors.
“News about Prof Jay are not true ignore it,” he tweeted.
