Comedian-turned human activist Eric Omondi has dared MPs to try discussing the bill that seeks to extend term limits for political leaders.
Speaking to digital content creators, Omondi noted that senators are not stupid to embark on such a discussion at a time when Kenyans have been pushed to the wall
According to him, Kenyans have been pushed to the wall and they are just waiting for a trigger to fight back.
“Let them try. They are not stupid, I know they can’t. Kenyans have been pushed to the wall, they are just waiting for a trigger. They can’t try that stupidity. Adani has taken over, people have remained silent, SHA, the new funding model, people are silent. Let them just try to discuss extension of term limits, let them go to Senate, switch on the microphones, not passing, and just talk about it,” he said.
The proposal to extend term limits of president and other elected leaders from 5 years to 7 years was tabled by Nandi senator Samson Cherargei. This has however been opposed by majority of Kenyans.
After sponsoring the bill, the senator has gone ahead to explain why Kenyans don’t need to hold general elections regularly.
“Kenyans, are you aware that in the 2022 general elections, Ksh35.8 billion, which translates to Ksh2000 per voter, was used with an outstanding pending bill of Ksh2.05 billion by IEBC? This is the most expensive election cost in the world. That’s why we don’t need to hold elections regularly because these monies can be used for the development projects across the country,” he said in a statement.
