Garissa town Member of parliament Aden Duale has made a sharp u-turn on his take on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and wants it back months after it was shot down by the courts.
According to Aden Duale, he would help president Uhuru Kenyatta realize his BBI dreams of increasing resources to all the 47 county governments.
The Garissa town legislator made these sentiments on Saturday during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) political rally held in Nakuru’s Subukia town.
Duale, who vowed to bring an amendment on the budget policy, argued that it would be ideal to amend the changes so that Kenyans can have more money in their respective counties.
As a result, he vowed to table a motion in parliament beginning next year January so that the money can be raised from the current 17 percent to 35 percent.
“The president said he wants the BBI dream realised one day and because I am his friend, I will fulfil his dream in January so that his dream to give more money to the county governments can be realised
“I will be the first Member of Parliament to bring an amendment to amend the budget policy statement and the division of revenue so that the president can achieve his dream of BBI before he retires,” Duale said.
Aden Duale made these sentiments in the wake of president Uhuru Kenyatta revealing during the Jamhuri day celebration that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was just a postponed dream which must come true.
However, Duale’s sentiments did not augur well with most Kenyans who accused him of reaping where he did not sow so that he benefits politically.
According to these Kenyans, Duale,- a key Ruto ally was now dwelling on BBI as a damage control measure having realized that the ODM leader and the head of state meant well with the BBI which Duale and his boss Ruto vehemently criticized before the court declared it null and void.
“BBI is gone and the likes of Duale should stop lecturing us on the same because they are the same faction that rejected the document and misled Kenyans how it was the most evil thing on earth. They cannot suddenly turn around and demand BBI at a time when the pioneers like Raila already let go and moved on. Let Duale and his team in UDA look for a campaign narrative as opposed to dwelling on the defunct BBI, ” said one Kenyan.
