DJ Kalonje To Oga Obinna: Apologize Or Face The Courtroom!

Veteran DJ George Waweru, famously known as DJ Kalonje, has issued a stern warning to popular digital content creator Oga Obinna, threatening legal action over alleged defamatory remarks made in a recent YouTube video.

In an official letter dated August 21, 2024, DJ Kalonje’s legal team, Turunga Ithagi & Associates Advocates, detailed their grievances.

They pointed to a video posted by Obinna on his YouTube channel, Obinna TV Extra, on August 19, 2024, where Obinna allegedly claimed that DJ Kalonje “cannot play live mixes,” a statement the DJ vehemently denies.

The letter emphasized that these remarks were not only untrue but also posed a serious threat to DJ Kalonje’s business and brand, particularly in terms of current and future bookings.

“We have been duly retained by DJ Kalonje and Mixmasters Entertainment Limited (hereinafter referred to as ‘our client’), which has instructed us to address you as follows: On 19th August 2024, you posted a video on your YouTube channel, Obinna TV Extra, with the above-mentioned title where you stated that the director of our client one, DJ Kalonje, cannot play live mixes despite the same not being true,” the letter read.

The legal team further accused Obinna of defamation and demanded that he issue a live, unconditional apology.

“Notifications + Note that your actions of making such utterances amount to defamation and are a threat to our client’s business and brand with regard to current and future bookings,” the letter continued.

DJ Kalonje’s lawyers have given Obinna a seven-day ultimatum to comply with their demands or face legal consequences.

“Create take notice that should you fail to admit liability and make good of our client’s demand within seven (7) days from the date of your receipt hereof, we shall proceed to institute the requisite legal proceedings against you at your own cost, risk, and consequences. Profile be advised accordingly. more Yours faithfully, Turunga Ithagi & Associates Advocates,” the letter warned.

Taking to Instagram, DJ Kalonje expressed his frustration and disbelief at being dragged into what he described as an attempt to tarnish his name for online views.

He vowed not to stand by and watch his brand be defamed.

“It is truly baffling to me how I ended up being dragged into someone else’s interview, let alone why anyone would attempt to tarnish my name and brand for the sake of a few fleeting views and likes. My brand is something I take with the utmost seriousness, and I refuse to entertain any form of defamation, whether it’s intended as a joke or not,” he wrote.

The DJ didn’t hold back in his criticism of Obinna’s actions, calling them unprofessional and immature.

“Your complete disregard for others when you recklessly spew harmful statements about someone else’s brand is not only appalling but utterly irresponsible. I have dedicated years of hard work to building my reputation, and your actions are nothing short of unprofessional and immature. @ogaobinna This serves as a formal letter of demand, emphasizing that this behavior will not be tolerated,” DJ Kalonje concluded.
