Diamond Platnumz has come out to complain being extorted by Tanzanian customs who are making him pay a fee for traveling out of the country.
Speaking during an interview on Wasafi FM, Diamond revealed that he is barred from leaving Tanzania without a special permit.
He explained that Tanzanian customs have an additional requirement for Wasafi artists whenever they are traveling out of the country.
“I think it is something for Wasafi signed artists, we are not allowed to go beyond the airport without a permit from the authorities,” Diamond said.
The Bongo superstar further disclosed that he is forced to pay Tsh50,000/Ksh2400 every time he travels out of Tanzania.
“The moment I get there (airport) I am told I am supposed to have a permit which costs Tsh50,000,” he lamented.
Diamond further complained that he is forced to get the permit even when traveling for non-business matters, such as visiting his children in South Africa.
In a quick rejoinder, Tanzania Music Regulatory Board, BASATA came out to explain the fee is standard policy for all artists traveling abroad for performances.
“There is no way a law can be enacted for just a certain individual, all artistes traveling abroad for performances are required to obtain a permit from Basata at a fee of Tsh50,000,” the council’s acting Secretary General Matiko Mniko told local media.
