Citizen TV Emerges Top In Viewership Of Ruto’s Inauguration After Being Denied Broadcasting Rights

Citizen TV was among private TV stations that were locked out of William Ruto’s swearing-in ceremony on September 13, 2022.

Even after being denied broadcasting rights, Citizen TV still managed to emerge top in the viewership of the presidential inauguration.

Survey released by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) show that Citizen TV was the most watched TV station with an average of 252,387 viewers.

NTV Kenya came a distant third with an average of 67,908 viewers, followed by Nation with 24,596 viewers.

KBC which was given the exclusive broadcasting rights to stream live the presidential inauguration came fourth with an average of 18,368 viewers.

Unlike the other national events where local media channels got exclusive rights to cover events, it’s only KBC and multichoice/DSTV that were given exclusive rights to broadcast Ruto’s swearing-in.

Consequently, the likes of Citizen TV had to rely on the feed from the two stations to share with their audience.

Citizen TV reporter Stephen Letoo took a subtle dig at KBC moments after the station was denied the chance to cover the swearing-in event.
