Miss Kenya 2005 Cecilia Mwangi was a real threat to the marriage of Mwanaisha Chidzuga and Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana.
Mungatana is a well-known polygamist. Violet Wairimu Mungatana was his first wife but they were estranged for many years.
The Tana River senator and his first wife once co-owned a law firm in Mombasa before he joined politics.
Their marriage however was strained by the politician’s philandering ways – apparently he started having an affair with Mwanaisha Chidzuga while he was still married to Violet.
The last time Mungatana was spotted with his estranged wife was around 2003 at the Nairobi Pentecostal Church in Karen where they used to frequent.
Mungatana’s first wife died on March 25, 2019 while undergoing dialysis at the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi where she had been admitted for about a month. She left behind three children, a girl and two boys.
Mungatana’s wife passed on while he had already married at least twice – Mwanaisha Chidzuga and Cecilia Mwangi.
Chidzuga’s marriage to Mungatana has been quite bumpy, often being threatened by infidelity on his part.
The Tana River senator nearly wrecked his marriage to Chidzuga when he started having an affair with beauty queen Cecilia.
The politician dated and briefly married Cecilia Mwangi whom he has a daughter with.
However, Cecilia and Mungatana parted ways in 2016. Cecilia later opened up about her relationship with her baby daddy disclosing that she was not in contact with him ever since they split.
“Personally, I felt was at a stage where I needed back some peace of mind. We no longer communicate. No phone calls, no messaging… Nothing at all. We now live our separate lives,” Cecilia said.
After the breakup, Chidzuga took to social media to celebrate, claiming that the beauty queen was never her co-wife.
“Kindly note that I Mwanaisha Chidzuga was never a co-wife to one Cecilia Mwangi. Please stop dragging my name and that of my family into this madness,” Mwanaisha Chidzuga wrote.
She added that her relationship with Mungatana was as tight as ever.
“Hapa mapenzi tu…wenya shingo za feni jipeni shughuli (It’s all about love here… haters should find something better to do )” she wrote complete with a selfie of her with Mungatana and other photos of their children.
Cecilia Mwangi revealed that Danson Mungatana was a deadbeat father to their daughter Cherise while speaking during an interview on ‘Let’s Talk’ show on Ebru TV on September 21, 2017.
Cecilia explained that the Tana River Senator had never provided for their daughter ever since she was born. She however stated that she was comfortable taking care of Cherise on her own.
“It’s not easy being a single mum if you are not working or you do not have something you are doing and if you are not organized. It can be very overwhelming if you do not set your mind to it,” Cecilia said in part.
“All through from the time she was born it has been mum giving. He has not even been in the picture, she is not lacking something so she doesn’t get to a point where she is like ooh I miss so and so because he used to get me this and nowadays I don’t get it because he is no longer there,” the former beauty queen divulged further.
Fast forward to June 2023, Mwanaisha Chidzuga opened up about her husband’s relationship with Cecilia while speaking on Radio 47 where she works.
The journalist claimed that she had never met Cecilia in person and that she had forgiven her husband for cheating with her.
Chidzuga explained that she forgave Mungatana because he was genuinely sorry.
“As a woman there are things unasamehe kama mtu unaona amenyenyekea amekosea ameomba msamaha,” she said.
