Award-winning singer and songwriter Bien-Aimé Baraza has revealed that fellow artist Size 8 played a pivotal role in his decision to buy his first car.
In an exclusive interview on Mseto East Africa, the former Sauti Sol member shared that before purchasing his first vehicle, he relied on public transportation for travel and interviews.
However, a conversation with Size 8, a former secular artist who transitioned into gospel music, convinced him to make the investment.
“When I started my music career, I didn’t even know how to drive. I got my first car without knowing how to drive it. I used to take matatus everywhere until Size 8 sat me down and said, ‘You are a big artist now; your songs are playing on the radio. Buy a car,’” Bien recalled.
At the time, Bien had already released several hit songs dominating Kenyan airwaves.
Despite his growing fame, he hadn’t considered purchasing a car until Size 8 strongly encouraged him.
Size 8, known for her bold personality and business acumen, has been a longtime friend of Bien, a relationship that has endured even after she transitioned to gospel music.
Beyond her influence on his personal decisions, Bien also revealed that their friendship extended into their musical careers.
He disclosed that he wrote the gospel song ‘Yahweh’ for Size 8 and has collaborated with her on multiple projects.
“I have written a couple of songs for her. Many times, she just calls me, we meet up, and we work. Size 8 is very aggressive in her career, and she has taught me a lot about myself and God,” he added.
Bien’s career has continued to flourish, recently earning him the Best Artist in Eastern Africa award at the prestigious Trace Awards in Zanzibar.
With an eye on expanding his reach, he is now focused on collaborating with international artists to elevate Kenya’s presence on the global music stage.
