Singer and actress Judith Nyambura Mwangi, popularly known as Avril, has opened up about her motherhood journey, saying it is not easy.
Becoming a mother is one of the reasons that she had to go slow on music because she had to fully focus on her child. Her son is currently 7 years old.
“I was very intentional with motherhood. Of course along the journey you are like ‘is this what I signed up for?’ The journey knocks you up. Motherhood is beautiful but is is not easy,” she told Actress Wilbroda.
The Chokoza hitmaker said that once you are given the motherhood responsibility by God, you have to take it seriously.
“A baby is not a toy that you take back, saying you can’t continue. Once you take it up, that is it. I decided somethings can wait. Somethings are way important than money and fame,” she said, supporting Nakuru governor Susan Kihika for taking a maternity leave after the birth of her twins.
“Were you expecting her to breastfeed while at the oval office?” Avril posed. “I feel like we need to clap for mothers a bit more and give them time. You don’t know what the delivery process was like, whether she was hurt, you don’t know whether she is going through postpartum, before they can fully come back and take care of you.”
She also opened up about co-parenting with her fellow parent. J Blessing is believed to be the father of her son. According to her, co-parenting can only work if both parties realise that the most important person in the scenario is the child
“The moment you get out of your head and your ego and realise what is important it becomes much easier. This is for both parties, drop your ego and realise that there is someone who is most important in this whole dynamic and it is your child. Put aside your our heart, stress, financial challenges and everything and think the kind of life you want your child to live. I want him to have a healthy mindset,” she explained.
She noted that co-parenting with her baby daddy wasn’t perfect as they are still figuring it out.
“We are figuring it out , as we move but we are cordial and we try as much as possible that the most important person in this whole dynamic is taken care of,” she further said.
