Wilbroda sunk into alcoholism at the peak of her career and drank all her money with her friends.
Alcoholism is the biggest problem affecting most thespians and in Kenya, in fact nearly all of them who are now stuck in abject poverty is because of their addiction to the drink.
Former Tahidi high actors Omosh and OJ, Real Househelps Of Kawangware actor Onyi are some of the thespians who have struggled with alcoholism.
The story is the same for Wilbroda, whose real name Jacquey Nyaminde, only that unlike Omosh and Onyi who are stuck in poverty, she overcame alcoholism escaped penury.
The former Papa Shirandula actress opened up about her alcohol addiction for the first time in September 2021, narrating how fake friends drank all her money.
The Milele FM radio presenter cum actress while speaking to Buzz Central’s Cheptoek Boyo revealed that she got into alcohol when she was at her career peak getting endorsements from companies.
The mother of one sunk into heavy drinking with friends who were keeping her company only because she was footing the bills.
“At that time I was at the peak of my career and getting good money. I had a crew that would only talk positively about me. We would sit and drink and a lot of the time I would be the one footing the bills,” said Wilbroda.
However, the actress turned over a new leaf because of her son whom she is raising as a single mother.
“I sat down and told myself, this is not the kind of life I want my son to grow into. I told myself I need to take a break from this kind of drinking and I had to stop.”
Wilbroda stopped taking alcohol for two years, all her fake friends deserted her.
“I took a two-year break. I did not touch alcohol. The friends disappeared. I gained true friends and I think now I am a social drinker. I take wine and you will never find me drinking every day. That is what comes with maturity. Unlike before, I can say no to a drink.”
