A man was killed over a debt of Ksh32(Ush1000) that surprised a lot of people who heard about the story.
Three people have been arrested for the murder of a 23-year-old man for failing to pay the Ksh32 alcohol debt.
The man identified as Fred Obadiah failed to clear his alcohol bill at a bar in Rukungiri District in Western Uganda.
The late Mr. Fred Obadiah was accosted by the three arrested men when he was done drinking from Komugisha’s bar right after he ordered the drink.
Eyewitnesses told police officers that the three nabbed Obadiah in Bagasheki’s home compound located in Bugarama village, Ihunga Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County.
“They tied him on a tree and beat him into a coma before one of Bagasheki’s neighbors contacted police,” Mr Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police boss told the media.
Fred Obadiah was pronounced dead soon after he arrived at Kisizi Mission Hospital where he was taken by his neighbors who had to make an intervention from the three men who accosted him.
“We have three people in our custody. I want to condemn this act as unlawful and ask the public to always use police and other authorities instead of taking laws in their hands because the police are out to assist Ugandans,” Maate said.
Fred’s body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center mortuary.
Rukungiri Central Police Station recorded the matter as a murder case.
