The ill fated bus that plunged into river Enziu in Mwingi was carrying 17 extra passengers, it had a total of 68 people whom most were related.
According to authorities, 23 bodies have so far been retrieved from river Enziu since the bus was carried away by flooding waters on Saturday December 4th.
12 people were rescued alive as they managed to escape from the bus through the windows the moment it plunged into the flooded river.
Lifeless bodies of tens of victims who drowned in river Enziu were retrieved and laid on the river bank before being transported to the mortuary.
Out of the 23 bodies retrieved so far from river Enziu, 15 were identified as members of one family.
The 15 were identified as members of the bridal family whose septuagenarian parents were renewing their vows in a church wedding.
Justus Musyoka, an official of the Mwingi Catholic Parish who had rushed to the scene after the reports of the tragic accident, says that there had been disagreement between the driver and passengers on the number of people who were to be transported to the wedding.
He said the family forced the driver to transport more passengers to the wedding than the bus is allowed to carry.
