In a heartfelt and enlightening conversation, former TV host Janet Mbugua has unveiled the reasons behind her choice to embrace celibacy, a decision steeped in personal growth and self-reflection.
The mother of two, known for her vibrant personality and thought-provoking commentary, has taken a step back from romantic entanglements to focus on nurturing her inner self.
“I’ve come to realize that saying I am single, sober, and celibate is not a badge of honor—it’s a journey. This time has allowed me to pause and truly listen to my own thoughts and desires, free from the noise of relationships that can often cloud judgment,” she candidly shared on her YouTube channel.
For Janet, this period of celibacy isn’t about withholding pleasure; it is a choice aimed at self-preservation.
“Sometimes we have to make decisions that aren’t necessarily easy or fun but are vital for our peace of mind,” she explained.
“I’ve experienced so much clarity and calmness in this space, even if it comes with its own set of challenges. In our world, which is so saturated with sexual assertion, choosing celibacy may lead others to misunderstand my intentions and assumptions about me.”
Addressing misconceptions, particularly those regarding her personal life, Janet clarified that her choice has no connection to the whims of romance.
“There was a rumor that I might be involved with a younger partner because of a post I made about maturity. But the reality is, maturity can be found in people of all ages. You can meet an older person who lacks wisdom while a younger individual may surprise you with their insight. Age is merely a number; it does not dictate emotional or mental maturity.”
Ultimately, Janet emphasized that her celibacy is a personal venture.
“Whether one stays single for a year or a few months, each journey is unique. What matters is being true to oneself and understanding what one needs at any given moment.”
