Zendiambo Curedeh has responded to critics of his viral dance challenge Mapangale.
The artist has asked those who dislike the dance challenge to keep off it as no one has forced them to do it.
“When the moonwalk dance challenge was released, did people go to the moon? Mi mtu asiniambie kitu. No one has forced the dance on no one. If you don’t like it keep off. Acha kutuekea jam na sijui netizens, sijui Citizen,” he stated on social media.
He asked critics to introduce their own holier dance challenges if his were hurting them.
“Acheni kutuharibia mood ma holier than. Nikisema mapangale unasema sha sha sha,” he further said.
Among those who found the dance challenge troubling is KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua. In his statement, Mutua said that the dance challenge normalizes violence and crime.
“I have reviewed the clips and I agree that this kind of content normalises violence and is misogynistic. I am liasing with the relevant authorities, particularly the Ministry of Interior to ensure that such content does not jeopardise national security,” he said.
Mutua urged content creators to create content that is inspiring and not those that glorify crime.
Comedian Nasra Yusuf also said the challenge was not sitting well with her.
“I might be overthinking but with these increased violence reports, I don’t think we should be glorifying a dance challenge with pangas,” she said.
A section of other popular Kenyans who have participated in the challenge have since pulled down their videos, and apologized to fans saying they were not glorifying crime.
