In an emotional interview, DJ and actress Pierra Makena opened up about the anxiety and emotional rollercoaster she experienced upon discovering her pregnancy.
Speaking with MC Jessy, she shared that the news of her pregnancy took her by surprise and immediately raised serious concerns, particularly about her health.
Feeling unprepared and worried, Pierra decided to undergo an HIV test as one of her first steps, fearing the implications a positive diagnosis could have on her and her unborn child.
She recounted the intense moments of waiting for the test result, praying to God to give her another chance.
“When I got knocked up and got pregnant and shit happened, me and big stomach, the first thing I did was an HIV test and I was like ‘God please give me another chance.’ I found myself not positive I went checked the heartbeat and I found I have a heartbeat,” she recalled.
When the test came back negative, Pierra drove to a nearby church to thank God, seeking both guidance and reassurance.
In that moment, she dedicated herself to relying on her faith for the journey ahead, asking for protection and provision.
“I went to church and cried to God asking him to be the father of my child and the time I was walking out of the church door, the answer was yes. My child is protected,” she said.
Reflecting on the challenges of navigating single motherhood, Pierra shared that the pregnancy came shortly after a breakup.
Facing the prospects of raising a child alone and supporting herself brought additional layers of concern.
Despite the challenges, she expressed a determination to build a strong support system and remain resilient.
While her relationship with her child’s father has had its complexities, Pierra clarified that she has maintained an open door, allowing him the chance to be a part of their daughter’s life.
She explained that while he may have been unprepared to be an active father to their daughter Ricca at the time, she harbors no resentment, and they remain friends.
“I have never denied the father room to be there for his child. He’s just never been there. I have no beef with him. This happened when he was not in a space to be a father,” Pierra said.
Adding that; “I am not going to blame him, as much as he got some where and was able to be a father to somebody else and give it all, it is okay, probably he was not ready to be a father to Ricca or to be a husband to me. He is a nice person. We are friends.”
Pierra’s story resonates with many, as she exemplifies resilience and a deep sense of faith in navigating the ups and downs of single motherhood.
