First daughter Charlene Ruto is trending online after reports emerged that she had landed a parastatal job in the ministry of mining and blue economy.
According to a fabricated gazette notice that is circulating online, Charlene is said to have been appointed by president William as the Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation for a period of three years.
The false notice has sparked outrage among Kenyans with many proceeding to share their opinions on social media.
“What brings William Ruto and Garry Conile together at the Statehouse is. The irrational appreciation of dictatorship. It’s still startling how they took over the National Mining Corporation too with Charlene Ruto as the Chairperson!” an X user reacted.
Another said, Ni sawa Rigathi Gachagua was Tribal and corrupt, so he must go home But Ruto appointed Charlene Ruto hiyo iko sawa kabisa.”
In a tweet, the Ministry of mining flagged the notice as fake, replacing it with the real one, which indicates that the head of state appointed Jospeh Kipchumba Lagat in the said position.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 25 (1) (a) of the Mining Act, 2016, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- JOSEPH KIPCHUMBA LAGAT to be the Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 4th October, 2024,” the original notice stated.
