Actress Wanjiku Mburu Shares Message From Brother Abducted By Alshabaab 10 Years Ago

Wanjiku Mburu, who played the role of Mama Baha and Govi in the popular Machachari TV series, is appealing to the government of Kenya to help bring home her brother and cousin who were both abducted by Al Shabab in January 2014.

In a heartfelt TikTok Video, Wanjiku revealed she was able to talk to her brother March the same 2014. From then, her brother was able to communicate to the family on Monday October 7, 2024, which marks 10 years and 7 months since the abduction.

“My brother and cousin were abducted in Mogadishu Somalia in January 2014. In March of the same year my brother called and told us what transpired because then, we just relied on sources. That was just a brief moment, for a minute or so,” she shared.

Her brother George called through their father and requested to speak to Wanjiku.

“I was out and about and at that moment I just lost it. I was broken. I was shaking. Afterwards, I received a call, a number from Somali, I normally don’t take numbers  that I don’t know but this one it didn’t ring for a second and I said Hello and there was a voice on the other side,” the actress narrated.

Her brother, who was very much sober addressed her in Swahili although his speech was very different.

“He said Shi ni Kajijo, kwani umenisahau? There is not a moment a day or an hour that I don’t think of him. I could hear the voice, the laugh was his but the speech…I asked why he was talking like that and he said ‘I just found out today which year it is . I have been inside four  walls, with handcuffs and chains on my legs, I always talk to the four walls, how will I talk?” Wanjiku shared.

Her brother revealed that he was separated with their cousin and wasn’t aware where he was or how he was doing.

“Akasema Shiku nataka unifanyie kitu Ukiskia imelia jua imeuma, I don’t know that saying, I have heard it today,” she said.

The brother informed her that Alshabab wants the government of Kenya to talk to them urgently. The militia is holding captive many Kenyans to avenge after Kenya send soldiers to fight them.

“Brother yangu, cousin yangu, Wakenya wenzetu wako Mogadishu. Wametekwa so today. Sisi ndio kioo ya jamii, am asking Wakenya wenzetu tuungane, leo ni mimi  kesho ni nyinyi, let’s bring Georges back home,” she appealed.
