“I Know This Journey Very Well” Winnie Bwire’s Mother Opens Up About Her Own Battle With Cancer

The mother of late actress Winnie Bwire, widely known for her role as “Dida” in Sultana, has opened up about their brave fight against breast cancer.

Winnie’s mother, herself a breast cancer survivor, shared the personal journey her family has faced.

“Not so many people have gone through cancer and spoken about it. They take it like a taboo,” Winnie’s mother revealed, adding that many of her own relatives had battled the disease in silence until they found the courage to support each other.

“I am a breast cancer survivor from 2015, so this journey, I know it very well.” She explained that her cancer was detected early, giving her the chance to overcome it.

Recalling her daughter’s early love for acting, she noted, “She started acting when she was in kindergarten.”

Winnie’s mother also spoke about how her daughter blossomed into a confident adult, aware of her beauty and determined to achieve stardom.

“Her highest achievement was in Sultana with her character ‘Dida’… She was very creative,” said her mother, adding that Winnie lived by the motto of kindness and treated everyone with respect, from house managers to local boda boda and tuk tuk drivers.

Winnie Bwire tragically lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer on September 5, 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey.

Diagnosed in 2022 with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a rare form of cancer affecting the breast’s milk ducts, she fought the disease courageously for two years before passing away.

Her legacy as an actress and her kind spirit will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
