In a candid interview, Kenyan actress and radio host Jacque Nyaminde, popularly known as Wilbroda, opened up about her unexpected friendship with former castmate Jacky Vike, also known as Awinja, from the beloved sitcom “Papa Shirandula.”
Despite their close bond today, Wilbroda admitted that she initially had reservations about Awinja’s role in the show.
During a conversation with comedian Obinna, Wilbroda revealed her initial skepticism when Awinja joined the ensemble cast.
“When she first started, I remember going to the producer and asking him why she had been brought on board because she did not know how to act,” she stated.
Describing Awinja as shy and timid in her early performances, Wilbroda recounted her own frustration, stating, “The thing is, I lack patience, and I felt that she was wasting me.”
Over time, however, the two actresses found common ground through their shared experiences on set.
Wilbroda described how Papa Shirandula himself encouraged Awinja to embrace her character, which eventually allowed her to flourish.
“Look at her now and how she lives off that character—driving big cars. The producers kept asking me to give her time,” she noted, reminiscing about their initial days together.
As their professional relationship blossomed, Wilbroda and Awinja’s camaraderie deepened, leading them to become inseparable both on and off-screen.
“When we are together, we chat a lot. We talk about everything,” Wilbroda shared, emphasizing the support they offer each other, even in times of financial need.
“We are the kind that if we have money, we call each other to lend when the other is broke.”
The revelation of their evolving friendship has resonated with fans, with many praising the bond the two share.
In addition to discussing her friendship with Awinja, Wilbroda also opened up about her dating experiences, revealing a past relationship with a braggadocious Tanzanian man.
She shared that he had misled her about his wealth, claiming to own multiple properties and connections to top Bongo Flava artists like Diamond Platnumz and Harmonize.
