Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Amollo Odinga on Saturday made it very clear that the court of appeal ruling which threw out the BBI would not stop him from his political goals.
While using a swahili say of kuvunjika kwa mwiko sio mwsiho wa kupika Ugali, the opposition leader maintained that they will simply throw that BBI (mwiko) then proceed with something else.
In a disappointed tone, the ODM leader told mourners in Nyanza that he would not dwell much on the BBI since it is now a past issue. His sentiments were also reiterated by his elder brother Oburu Oginga who said that it was time to forget about it.
Prior to the final ruling, Raila Odinga seemed to have thrown the BBI to the dogs when he said that it was time to move on to other things after the court of appeal judges reaffirmed the decision by the high court.
According to him, The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was just a journey not a destination.
“It is likely that today’s Court of Appeal ruling is not the end of the conversation and the parties involved will each make their own decisions on how to proceed from the decision that has been delivered today. But we feel that we have to move on,” Raila said.
“We feel that we must now see the forest for the trees, and pursue the bigger goal of setting the rest of the issues facing this country.”
Raila had also earlier said that he would not be bothered to appeal the court of appeal ruling at the Supreme court if they dismissed their appeal.
“We will not move to the Supreme Court if the court dismisses BBI. Our focus now is on elections but we will come back for BBI after elections,” He stated days before the verdict.
