Kenya Reports has established that Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has strongly disagreed with One Kenya Alliance(OKA) principals over plans to support ODM leader Raila Odinga.
According to the source familiar with the OKA discussions, Musalia Mudavadi is adamant since supporting Raila Odinga would mean that he chooses a running mate outside Western Nyanza region which would render him absolutely useless in the 2022 looming general elections.
According to Kenyans.co.ke, Kalonzo Musyoka is in a pole position to be Raila’s running mate for the third time, after supporting him in 2013 and 2017, owing to regional balance. Mudavadi’s allies feared that Raila would ask Mudavadi to step down for Musyoka who hails from the Eastern region.
These sources added that Raila Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi might jeopardize their chances of succeeding president Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta since both control the region and it would be a waste of candidature.
On their side, Kalonzo Musyoka allies are said to be cautious with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and want him to reciprocate support for the Wiper boss who stood with him in 2013 and 2017 general elections.
“We do not want to get into another alliance where he will not win again. It is time for him to return the favour,” said Kitui Central MP Mulu Makali.
In the meantime, Raila who on Tuesday congratulated the newly elected Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema is set to hold a press conference with sources intimating that he may as well use the platform to make official his presidential bid.
Besides, his close allies like the Kakamega governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya have revealed that the opposition leader will likely go ahead to launch his “Meet the people tour.”
“Amidst an unprecedented public health challenge, the Zambian people have made Africa proud for conducting a successful election. And that it brings more prosperity to the people and reminds fellow Africans elsewhere that nothing is impossible. I wish you the best of luck in the days and years ahead,” Raila stated.
