Mike Sonko Confirms He Was With Jackie Maribe Night Monica Kimani Was Killed

“I don’t know Jowie Irungu, let the law take its course,” Mike Sonko says.

Mike Sonko, the former Governor of Nairobi, has stated that he was in the company of Jackie Maribe, a former news anchor for Citizen TV who’s facing murder charges alongside her boyfriend Jowie, on the night when Monica Kimani, a businesswoman, was killed.

Sonko affirmed that he does not have the tendency to abandon his friends during difficult times.

Additionally, Sonko expressed his readiness to provide testimony in court regarding the matter, if requested. During an appearance on the JKLive show, Sonko revealed that he took Maribe and other friends to a well-known city club for drinks on the night in question, and left around 4 am.

Following Kimani’s death, Sonko requested a copy of the CCTV footage from that night, in case it could be of use in the investigation.

However, I do not know Jowie Irungu, and I don’t support his actions at all on that material day, and if it’d true he murdered Monica Kimani, let the law take its course. During the trial on Thursday, Maribe testified that she had no motive to desire the death of Monica Kimani. Maribe explained to Judge Grace Nzioka that she was not acquainted with Monica and only learned of her through a news report about her murder.

Maribe also recounted her activities on the day the crime was alleged to have occurred. She stated that on September 19, 2018, she departed from her residence at Royal Park to go to work, and her then-fiancé Jowie drove her to RMS at 8 am. Maribe stayed at RMS the entire day until 9:30 pm.

Upon leaving, she encountered former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s group, who were scheduled to be interviewed by Jeff Koinange on JKL Live.

Maribe then went to Q Lounge, a restaurant opposite Citizen TV, where she watched the interview on her phone until it’s battery charge died.

At approximately 11:30 pm, Maribe’s colleague Monica Kiragu came to Q Lounge and informed her that Jowie was looking for her.

Maribe explained that since her phone was off, Jowie sought her out using Monica’s number.
