Bishop Deya was spreading legs, and his church ministry for 15 years in England.
He became famously known in 2004 for the ‘miracle babies’ scam. Bishop Deya recently provided a controversial explanation for his infidelity during his 15-year long-distance marriage.
According to the bishop, it was difficult for him to live without a partner during his time in England, and he believed that having sexual relations outside of marriage would lower his risk of developing prostate cancer.
While this justification may seem illogical to some, Bishop Deya’s believes what he did was right.
Deya stated that his marriage with his wife Mary had deteriorated due to issues of trust, and his attempts to withdraw a divorce suit that he had filed against her were unsuccessful in saving their relationship.
“The reason why my wife divorced me is she still believes I have stayed alone for many years and she doesn’t agree that I was faithful, which is normal. When I was in England, I stayed there for 15 years, I’m a human being, I could not be without a woman because that could give me prostate cancer,” he explained.
He was taken into custody on accusations of child theft and was subsequently granted release on a bond of Ksh 10 million.
The audacious “man of God” spent nine months in Kamiti Maximum Prison for a crime he did not commit he insists. During his time in prison in United Kingdom, he praised the modern amenities available in UK prisons such as computers and flush-able toilets.
“I maintain my innocence and deny any wrongdoing. I am confident that this court will exonerate me from these false accusations.”
“After eventually returning to Kenya, I made the decision to divorce my wife Mary who had been arrested and charged in connection with the child theft and ‘miracle baby’ scandal. I felt that my reputation had been tarnished as a result of these events.”
Bishop Deya, insists he was in London overseeing his church ministry, during the time when the ‘miracle baby’ scandal was unfolding in Kenya.
