Shaffie Weru’s Broke Life, He’s Been Unable To Afford Ksh 500 For Food

Celebrated radio icon Shaffie Weru says, he’s been broke and unable to afford 500 bob for food.
Shaffie Weru lost his radio job a while a go. Along with presenter Neville and DJ Joe Mfalme, the trio were sacked from the Radio Africa-owned station in 2021 for remarks deemed improper by ‘many’ of its listeners.
In a recent interview, Shaffie has stated that the sacking was caused by much more than the presenters’ on-air comments and was more about his personality and presence at the radio station.

The trio Kenyan radio hosts were fired after inquiring if women were responsible for placing themselves in possible positions that could attract attacks from their special ones or partners.

They were talking about a court case in which a man was accused of shoving a woman he met on Facebook out a 12th-floor window on their first date.

Commentators accused the hosts of victim blaming, which sparked outrage on social media.

Some Kenyans claimed the words promoted violence against women and demanded that the show be canceled.

Via his social media account Shaffie Weru shares his ups and downs in his life.

He says, “There have been times I’d put just kshs. 500 worth of fuel in my tank, while other times, jaza tank. I’ve had just ksh. 500 to feed myself and family and I’ve also had ksh. 5k to go out to eat. I’ve had a house full of food and other times I didn’t have any. I’ve been in stores cashing out with no worries and I’ve also had to add it up and put things back on the shelf. I’ve paid my bills in full and other times had to pay late. I’ve given money and I too have had to ask for it.”

“We all have highs and lows in life, some certainly more than others, but we’re all just trying to make it through this crazy life.
No one is better than anyone else, and my heart is sad for those who think that they are. No matter how big your house is, how new your car is, or how much money sits in your bank account – we all bleed red and will eventually fade from this earth. Death has no discrimination neither should your actions in life.
Be kind to others. We are all here to serve. Stop the power-tripping…over-sized egos won’t get us anywhere. Know that not everyone has the same heart as you.” he adds.
