Raila Odinga has called out President William Ruto for pursuing a personal vendetta against former DCI boss George Kinoti in the pretext of pursuing extrajudicial executions.
Speaking during a press conference held at the Serena Hotel on Thursday, November 3, 2022, Raila said Azimio coalition was concerned about extrajudicial executions which he says is turning into a witch hunt.
“We are concerned about the so-called probe in extrajudicial executions which is turning into a witch hunt against the former DCI boss Mr George Kinoti and some few officers,” Raila said.
“We are opposed to extrajudicial executions because our supporters have been the greatest victims over the years. We believe that all not some cases of real extrajudicial executions need to be investigated and those responsible punished,” he added.
Raila further said that Ruto’s regime is vindictive.
“We are however firmly opposed to the current trend directed by a vindictive regime and the president that seems to be pursuing a personal vendetta against specific current and past state officers in the pretext of pursuing extrajudicial executions,” he said.
The Azimio leader lamented that Ruto’s rise to power has offered him a perfect chance to punish state officers he long had a grudge against.
“President William Ruto’s grudge against George Kinoti and the DCI started way before the elections. Ruto appears to believe that the coming of the UDA regime is a perfect mandate for him to punish state officers he long had a grudge against,” Raila said.
“We are here to say no. We oppose attempts to sacrifice state officers who in the line of duty they have rubbed politicians the wrong way and who are now being selectively punished for having done their jobs,” he added.
