6 Plants That You Should Not Grow Near Your House

Everyone is fascinated by a green surrounding. This could be a backyard garden, fence or a dense green ground around their home.

These plants are grown because of their amazing scents. Others are repellants of unwanted animals or for just a serene environment. The green surrounding are however risky to some extent as it could make your home a snake haven without your knowledge.

Plants that are likely to attract snakes to your home include;

1.Ground cover Ivy

These plants provides perfect hiding spots of snakes because of they form a thick mat on the ground. They also provides a moist and cool environment that snakes love. The plants further attracts insects and rodents thus providing a hunting ground for snakes.

2.Jasmine

They have a strong fragrance that attract pollinators as well as rodents and frogs which are popular snake food. Their thick and vine-like structure provide a perfect hideout for snakes and therefore it is risky to have them near your house or walkways.

3.Sugarcane

A stem of cane from one’s backyard garden, especially during a sunny day is a want for many. However,  when the plants are thick and tall, they provide a home for snakes. They also harbour animals that snakes consider food.

4.Lantana

Lantana is usually preferred by many because it creates a nice fence around homes. The fast growing plant however attracts animals that are snakes food such as lizards and insects. They provide a perfect hideout for snakes because of their tangled branches and stems.

5.Bamboo

These plants provide a serene environment but deep down their denseness and shady stalks, danger might be lurking. Bamboo trap moisture and create dark areas that are perfect spots for snakes to hide. It is also difficult to spot snakes when their coverage is dense.

6.Lemon Grass

Lemon grass is known to repel mosquitos and in some instances snakes  but some argue that their strong scent doesn’t bother snakes. Instead, they provide  a cool base and shade that harbour frogs  that snakes are likely to hunt for.
