They say love is a beautiful thing—it knows no boundaries, borders, race, or tribe.
A handful of Kenyan celebrities have married foreigners, and judging by their happiness, it seems to be one of their best decisions.
Here are six Kenyan celebrities who found love with foreign partners, along with the stories of how they met
1. Lenana Kariba
In 2022, the renown actor revealed that he met his white wife Helen two years earlier at a birthday party in Kileleshwa.
“We met here in Nairobi actually. She was born in the UK but she was raised between Kenya & the UK. I met her here. We both have a mutual friend but we had never met… I know this guy. We’ve known each other for 7 years and she’s known him for 7 years. They hang out and I hang out with him,” he said in an interview.
The duo got married at the Caribbean Islands of Antigua in 2021 after dating for 9 months. They have a daughter together. Helen is two years older than Kariba.
2. Anita Nderu
The popular media personality got married to an American, Barret Raftery, in September 2021, at an Invites only event. The couple was blessed with a baby girl in August 2022.
Anita met with Raftery through a mutual friend after breaking up with her longterm boyfriend in 2019. The relationship had lasted a decade. She began dating Raftery in 2020.
“We were introduced by mutual friends. One of my best friends is married to one of Barrett’s best friends, and we were both going through breakups. As would be the case, you’re deeply complaining to your friends. Then there was this day when my friend was leaving the house, and she said, ‘I want to introduce you to someone.’ To be very honest, at that moment, I thought, ‘At this point, what do I have to lose? I had really lost hope in anything (love) Nairobi had to offer.’ Later on, I find myself in a WhatsApp group, and my friend has put us all there, saying, ‘Hey, you guys are unlucky in love, get to know each other, and just be friends,’” she recounted in the past.
3. Bien
Bien Aime Baraza, a member of the now defunct boy band Sauti Sol is married to Chiki Kuruka, of Nigeria and Swiss decent.
In 2020, Bien revealed that he met with Chiki a few years before at an event in Nairobi.
“I met her standing at the parking lot with a friend of mine called Emmanuel and I was like ‘Emmanuel unachapa kitu safi’ (Emmanuel you have bagged yourself a beautiful girl). I actually thought her and Emmanuel were together,” he said then.
At the time, Bien had been single for a year and love wasn’t his thing. He was however drawn to Chiki because he found her intelligent and they ended up talking for hours. They would then have their first date at the popular Mama Oliech restaurant and the rest as they say is history.
The two got married in March 6, 2020 at a private wedding after dating for about 8 years.
Aside from being Bien’s wife, Chiki is his manager. She is also a choreographer and a fitness enthusiast.

At the time of their union, Madubuko was the general overseer of the Revival Assembly Church.
According to Madubuko, they met in Mombasa.
“I meet my present wife at a conference in Mombasa, Kenya. She came to sing while I was there to preach. Before my first wife passed away, we were supposed to hold our annual conference and she specifically asked me to invite Emmy to minister. She also asked me to invite her and her team for lunch in our home. Unfortunately , she did not live to see that happen. I did not know she would die when she did. I did not have any relationship with my present wife until my late wife passed away,” he said in the past.
After the death of his wife, whom he had been together with for over 20 years, Madubuko was not ready to settle down again as he couldn’t take her off his mind.
“But God had other plans . I was thinking of what next to do when God suddenly dropped it in my spirit that Emmy would become my wife. But, I did not know how it would happen because we were not romantically involved. She told me about her relationship and I counselled her. I kept it to myself. But, all over sudden, people close to me , including my son , began telling me that they foresaw me marrying, Ololo, which is what they called her. so, I picked up the phone, called her and told her I would marry her but she declined,” he further admitted.
